I love Christmas and all those special occasions like Birthdays; Easter; Mother’s Day; Father’s Day etc ! It’s a wonderful excuse to make someone feel special! I just love the whole experience – finding the gift (because I do not believe in “it’s the thought that counts!”), wrapping it with beautiful paper and gorgeous quality ribbon that helps make it extra special to the moment when you give it to the person.
Have you ever really looked at a person’s face when they open a gift – the excitement building up, their eyes widening, maybe a small tweak at the corner of the mouth and their breathing changing in anticipation? And then the smile, squeal of delight and the hugs that follow…… those are the moments that fill my emotional tank for a very long time!
Conversely, then you miss the spot, when the gift is so not what the person wants or identifies with; when they try so hard to be happy, but you can just sense the disappointment – that’s got to be the worst feeling for me!
I challenge you to find me someone who doesn’t step into second childhood when presented with a specially wrapped gift! One has to wonder why we make our purchases of gifts, so last minute? Have you been a recipient of yet another box of chocolates or bubble bath? It’s just not the same is it? Compare that to when you receive that something special that you know the person has given some thought, to who you are and what you like! You see, receiving a gift is not without emotion…. Therefore choosing and giving a gift should happen with a lot of thought.
With the age of technology, there are so many ways to find the perfect gift without spending hours walking the hallowed halls of the shopping malls…
So, my advice is – take the time and give it some thought – I promise you, it will be worth it!
